"The Devil and Max Devlin" is a 1981 Walt Disney Company motion picture directed by Steven Hilliard Stern and starring Elliott Gould, Bill Cosby, and Susan Anspach, and released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. In interviews, Gould lauded this film as the best he'd ever seen (along with another Disney film, ''The Last Flight of Noah's Ark''). Because of the subject matter and the presence of Bill Cosby as an evil character, it was considered controversial material for a Disney film at the time. It was also the first Disney film to feature cursing (not just religious connotations), with phrases like "damn" and an unfinished "son of a b—." This was one of three films that inspired Touchstone Pictures' decision to produce films for adult audiences. Anchor Bay Entertainment released the film on DVD in November of 2000.
